The Rev. Donald McLaughlin, 76, Of Dumont

DUMONT, N.J. — The Rev. Donald McLaughlin, of Dumont, died Sunday, Nov. 27. He was 76.

He was born in Bayonne, and was a parishioner of St. Vincent’s parish there. He graduated from St. Michael’s High School in Jersey City, completed Seton Hall University and attended Immaculate Conception Seminary.

He was ordained to Holy Priesthood by Most Rev. Thomas Boland at the Sacred Heart Basilica May 27, 1967, in Newark. His former assignments were St. Aloysius Parish (1967-68) and All Saints Parish (1968-79), both in Jersey City, St. Mary’s Parish in Dumont (1986-88), where he also served as temporary administrator, Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Maywood (1989 -96), where he served as pastor. He was reassigned to St. Mary’s Parish in Dumont (1998-2001) as a parochial vicar. He also was assigned at St. Helen’s Parish in Westfield (2001-08), before retiring in July of 2008. 

Surviving are two brothers, William and Dennis; a sister, Joanne Soltys and her husband John.

He was predeceased by his loving parents, Eugene and Anne (nee Looby) McLaughlin; and two brothers, Eugene Jr. and John Peter.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church, 280 Washington Ave., Dumont with an evening prayer service commencing at 7:30 p.m., and also from 9-10 a.m. Thursday prior to a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
